Since the 1700s, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor was a major US seaport for light freight and passengers. When the economy shifted away from this type of business, the land surrounding the Inner Harbor was transformed into open, grass-covered parkland. Today, the Inner Harbor is a cultural hub boasting condominiums, restaurants, hotels, and other attractions, including the National Aquarium.
